when i usually find a virus i lock it away in a virus chest, and i have been doing that for as long as i can remember, and my computer runs normally, i was just wondering if it helps to try to delete it or lock it away?
When a antivirus catches a virus%26#123;like i have avast%26#125; is it better to lock it away in a virus chest?stinger
It doesn't matter if you delete it or lock it way. The file is corrupt and can't be used again.

Hi Dan,
Yes it is okay to either keep it or delete it.
I use Avast as well and I opt to just delete it if it's a cookie or some such, BUT I tend to keep all the parasites it finds. Why? That's what I like to do. Mess with them and see how they work and what types of "payload" they cause.
To Katie. Grow up.
To Chuck - stop spamming for ink refils.
I prefer to delete it, but first consider what's the file; If its under the windows directory, then it might be an important file, locking it might be a better idea.
Udate your antivirus and scan your coputer in safe mode. After you remove virus, I recommend you use firefox browser. It is safer than IE. It can prevent viruses such as worm, trojan and etc. The newest official edition of firefox can be downloaded from http://www.mollzia.com
Glad to hear you use Avast. I've used it for 5+ years and wouldn't be without it. Keeping a virus locked in the virus chest effectively removes it from interfering with the computer, so you can safely leave any detected virus there.
DELETE IT DUH!
When you delete them (your virus chest contents) it assure you that there's no virus left in your computer and it can save space in your disk, so you can use the space for any other useful things.
Of course it's better to remove the virus.
Quarantine is only to counter immediate damage.
Look up as much about the virus as you can. Identify it's files. Ditch em files.
Once you're getting comfortable with that, learn your running processes when your machine is healthy. If you memorize that list you immediately know where to find the virus. It's possible to find your virus earlier than your virusscanner does and put a halt to it.
