I go to google and do a search for info I want. Google comes back with several legitimate links to several legitimate webpages which contain the requested info.
Any link I click on takes me to a bogus search engine, or to another page which is selling something. It is a different page each time, and there is usually one popup which accompanies it.
I know that the links google comes back with are not links to the pages that are opening up, because when I right click and select 'copy shortcut', then paste url into browser, it will take me to the real page.
I went to internet tools/internet options/general tab, and the home page is set to what I set it to ages ago: http://www.google.com .
I emptied temp internet file, cleared history. Ran spybot. Ran hijackthis.exe and removed what I didn't like to see. I ran my updated AV program (AVAST). I did online scan and disinfect at bitdefender website.
Problem still exists. Anyone know what to do?

Wow... We're witnessing the the making of a future Mac user, I know it.
I shake my head every time I read a sad story like this.
Mac OS X is a much more viable solution for the desktop user than Ubuntu or any other Linux distribution, for that fact. I used Linux for a few months before I bought a Mac. I was using Fedora Core 3.
