look in the avast control panel , also while i have nothing against avast (it's a good av ) you should seriously think about switching to AVG , this mail issue would not be a problem if you where using it

you are using msn and thus the attachments are already scanned using the built-in mcafee scan...if you want to scan them again you will need to simply turn on active protection, and select to save the attachment rather than open, the after the file is saved to your pc you can scan it....then open it.
